Introduction and Background

The 6th International Conference on Southeast Asian Natural Resources and Environmental Management (SANREM 2025) continues the legacy of SANREM 2021, which was organised by the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

SANREM 2025 serves as a platform for addressing pressing issues and fostering discussions among academics and researchers on topics related to the utilisation of natural resources and environmental management in the Southeast Asian region. Environmental management is explored through three key dimensions:

(a) Harmony between humans and the environment

(b) Environmental technology and conservation

(c) Diversity of natural resources and their role in sustainable living

These dimensions highlight the impact of environmental management on society, particularly in terms of economic sustainability, environmental health, technological advancements, and safety concerns.

Recognising the importance of sustainable development, the Faculty of Science and Technology, UMS, is committed to hosting the sixth edition of this conference in 2025. The conference will welcome participation from academics and researchers both domestically and, more specifically, from across Southeast Asia. The primary scope of study within the region aligns with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), encompassing expertise from various universities, private institutions, and government agencies worldwide.

The United Nations launched the SDGs in 2015 as a global agenda to promote human well-being and environmental conservation. In this context, SANREM 2025 provides a significant platform for researchers to build research collaborations, exchange knowledge on environmental issues, present and discuss research findings, generate innovative ideas, and deliberate on sustainable development topics within the SDG framework.

The conference will cover a wide range of topics, including natural resource management, sustainable bioresource technology development, and environmental management issues. It will also explore various processes, methodologies, and technologies used to study environmental changes and their impacts within the Southeast Asian region.

Aim

The conference aims to achieve three key objectives:

  1. To identify the latest technologies in the sustainable utilisation of bioresources, particularly in the field of energy.
  2. To discuss issues related to natural resource management and explore effective and economically viable methods to ensure sustainability in natural resource and environmental management within the Southeast Asian region.
  3. To provide a platform for researchers, academics, policymakers, government agencies, private sectors, and other stakeholders to share knowledge, experiences, and foster research collaborations and partnerships in the field of natural resource and environmental management.
